How To Survive Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

Valentine’s Day is silly. I feel it’s important to start with that. If you’re actually seriously worried that you’re going to be sad and alone on this day – stop right now. It’s not a real thing. It’s just a day, like any other day. Don’t feel pressured to make some special plans and go hunting for a date. However, if you feel like you need to distract yourself from all the Valentine stuff happening around you, here’s a couple of suggestions.

1. Book a SPA Day

There’s nothing better than relaxing and taking care of yourself. A lot of the time we put it off, or think that we don’t have time for a SPA. However, once we actually find time for it – it’s always a pleasure. You can do this by yourself, to truly nourish your body and mind, give yourself some down time. Or you can take your friends with you and make it a group activity. You and your girlfriends can use this opportunity to pamper yourselves and get some quality girl time.

2. Pamper Evening At Home

If you don’t want to go to a SPA or perhaps you just don’t want to spend a lot of money, there’s always an alternative. You can have a pamper evening at home. Light some candles, put on some music, take a nice bath, with bubbles or a bath bomb. Use some face and hair masks. Rub lotion all over yourself to nourish your skin. Paint your nails if you want. Basically just give yourself some royal treatment in the comfort of your own home.
 3. Netflix and Chill

Contrary to popular belief you don’t need a boyfriend to Netflix and chill with. You can do it on your own. Buy a bunch of snacks or order some food and spend an evening just lazing on the couch, having yummy food and watching your favourite shows or movies. No boyfriend to judge you for eating a whole pack of Doritos and then reaching for a bucket of Ben and Jerry’s. And you can watch whatever chick flicks you want. Doesn’t that sound good to you?

4. Anti-Valentine Party

You can either throw an anti-Valentine party for your single friends or just attend one. There’s usually quite a few of those going on everywhere. Either way it’ll be fun. There will be tons of single people around you, and you can all get wasted together and talk about how ridiculous the concept of Valentine’s Day is and how it’s all a Hallmark scheme to sell people lots of stuff they never would’ve bought otherwise.
 5. Go To The Gym

If you’re one of those people who constantly find excuses to not go to the gym, this is a day you might actually go. Think about it. If most of your friends are in relationships or have a date for Valentine’s you won’t have anyone to hang out with. Why not use that time to go to the gym and start getting fitter, stronger, better looking. Seriously, Valentine’s Day is a great day to start working on your dream body. Plus, this means you can feel morally superior to all your friends, cause you’re doing the smart thing and working out, while they’re spending Valentine’s Day gorging on chocolate and drinking. Who do you think will look better the next day?

6. Cook For Yourself

It’s always a good idea to treat yourself to a nice meal at the restaurant, but if you don’t want to feel awkward sitting alone at a restaurant, surrounded by couples, you don’t have to. You can spend this evening learning to cook a new meal. It’ll give you something to do, you’ll learn something new and as a result, you’ll have a delicious, homemade dinner. Be honest, when was the last time you actually properly cooked for yourself? You don’t usually cook, do you? Few people do. So why not use this opportunity to treat yourself?
